Spiritual Care
Spiritual care providers are health professionals who offer support for people who are in hospital or a residential resource, as well as their families and loved ones. They can help respond to your needs brought on by illness, aging, changes, a dramatic event, having to make difficult decisions, end of life or the death of a loved one. They’re there to listen and bring spiritual enlightenment to people who are searching for meaning or for answers to deep questions.
- This service is non-denominational. It respects the person’s freedom and convictions.
- The service is offered during the day by spiritual care providers. Outside of these hours, the care unit staff can contact a priest or other spiritual leader, when available, for urgent requests related to the anointing of the sick or other spiritual support in dying.
- A gathering place or a chapel is available 24/7, in almost all of the Bas-Saint-Laurent’s facilities.
- A celebration of the Word or a mass is offered at least once a month in all CHSLDs and in some hospital centres. See the schedule in chapels or gathering places.
- Spiritual customs adapted to the user’s beliefs and values, religious rituals, the anointing of the sick or communion can be offered.
