Hearing impairment

Hearing impairment services are intended for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals of all ages who reside in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

Services offered aim to:

foster the development of skills;
provide support for the use of assistive devices (e.g., hearing aids, auditory substitution devices, sound transmission systems);
reduce physical and social barriers to full participation;
teach new strategies to adapt to the situation.

Objectives of hearing impairment services

Focused on skill development and social participation, these services address the daily needs of the user, their family and loved ones.

Needs assessment
Recommendation, provision or adjustment of hearing aids or auditory substitution devices
Training in the use of hearing aids or auditory substitution devices
Functional evaluation of hearing and communication
Development of auditory skills and learning communication strategies
Development of language skills
Acquisition or maintenance of a communication method that respects your choices and abilities
Organization of information and awareness activities to promote autonomy and social integration
Psychosocial support

If needed, individuals will be referred to complementary resources from schools, professional services, community organizations and others.
