Youth clinics in school

Youth clinics in school settings allow elementary and secondary schools, as well as post-secondary institutions (vocational training centres, CEGEPs), to access services from the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent. 

Nursing and social work services vary depending on the educational institution. 

Nursing services offered to elementary schools and daycare centres (CPEs) 

  • Monitoring of youth health issues
  • Training and support for school staff, families and youth regarding chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, asthma)
  • Referrals to professional and medical services
  • Health promotion and prevention activities, mainly in sex education
  • Collaboration in school vaccination activities
  • Support for schools in managing infectious diseases (e.g., lice, gastroenteritis, chickenpox, etc.)
     

Nursing and social work services offered to secondary schools 

  • Individual consultations: nursing prescriptions, initiation to and adjustment of contraception methods, STBBI screening, assessment of physical or mental health issues, individual teaching, etc.
  • Referrals to professional and medical services
  • Training and support for school staff, families, and youth regarding chronic illnesses (e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, asthma).
  • Health promotion and prevention activities
  • Collaboration in school vaccination activities
  • Support for schools in managing infectious diseases (e.g., lice, gastroenteritis, chickenpox, etc.).
  • Social intake
  • Individual and family follow-up
  • Interventions in situations of distress
     

Services for post-secondary institutions
