Breast Cancer Screening
The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) launched the Québec Breast Cancer Screening Program (PQDCS) in 1998. It was implemented in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region in 2002. The goal of the PQDCS is to reduce the breast cancer mortality rate in Québec by 25% for women in this age group.
The PQDCS invites women aged 50 to 74 to have a screening mammogram every two years. Mammography is the only screening test proven to reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer.
The Bas-Saint-Laurent regional services coordination centre (CCSR) sends a personalized invitation letter to women aged 50 to 74 in its region. The Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec provides the CCSR with the names and addresses of women.
To learn about the wait times for a screening mammogram, visit the MSSS website (in French).
