Suicide prevention

Suicidal thoughts don’t appear suddenly. People who are thinking about suicide generally show signs that can alert family, friends or loved ones to their distress and intentions.

Getting help

A person in distress with suicidal thoughts needs support. The first way to help is to encourage this friend, family member or loved one to contact the Centre de prévention du suicide et d'intervention de crise du Bas-Saint-Laurent (in French) to access various services. Visit the website or call 1-866-APPELLE/1-866-277-3553.

Suicide prevention among men

For those close to men going through a difficult time, it’s important to recognize suicidal thoughts and the sometimes subtle signals that your friend, brother or father may be sending.

The loved ones of suicidal men may also face a lack of resources, discouragement, exhaustion, and may even experience some depression regarding the situation of a person with suicidal thoughts, especially when care is long and complicated. It’s important to provide them with support as well.
