You are grieving the loss of your baby
Once a more frequent occurrence, the death of a baby during pregnancy, birth or in the days following birth is, fortunately, rare today. When it happens, it’s normal to experience shock, anger, confusion and sadness for some time. The emotional intensity and the time needed to process this ordeal are different for everyone.
Each parent grieves in their own way and at their own time. Parents who have experienced the death of a newborn say that the presence and support of their loved ones helped them get through their ordeal.
There are support groups for parents who have lost a child. They can provide valuable help to parents who are grieving as well as opportunities to talk to other grieving parents. You can also consult a health professional (e.g., psychologist, social worker) to get individual counselling or support as a couple.
Just call 811 (option 2) or contact your CLSC to find out about the services offered.
