Who we are

The Centre régional de cancérologie de l’Est-du-Québec provides specialized services in diagnosis, surgery, systemic treatment and radiation oncology for people with cancer in the region.

In 2014, the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) recognized Hôpital régional de Rimouski as an affiliated centre for lung cancer treatment. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to continuously improve the quality of the lung cancer care pathway, formalize service corridors and optimize care and service pathways.

A network working together to beat cancer

As part of the MSSS’s master plan and action plan for the cancer program, “A network working together to beat cancer,” the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent established an interregional governance structure for oncology. This governance ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of the cancer program, and its updating in line with ministerial guidelines. Its mandate is to lead an interregional network bringing together Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie to ensure the coordination and alignment of oncology activities, and to evaluate clinical and administrative performance for people with cancer and their loved ones.

Direction générale de cancérologie

The fight against cancer is a priority for the MSSS. The mission of its directorate general of oncology (DGC) is to guide, coordinate and evaluate government actions aimed at reducing the burden of cancer in Québec. Within the MSSS, it serves as a cornerstone of cancer expertise. To fulfill its mandate, the DGC relies on the commitment of its partners among community organizations and within the health and social services system.
