Local youth mental health services

Local youth mental health services are intended for children or adolescents who have a mental health diagnosis or for whom a suspected mental health diagnosis has been made by a qualified professional. The intervention involves assessing the needs of the young person and their family, agreeing with them on actions to provide support, and equipping the family and loved ones so they can offer the young person the necessary day-to-day support.

Specialized child psychiatry services

These services are intended for children or adolescents whose symptoms are more severe and who are experiencing acute problems. The young person’s doctor determines whether a referral to specialized services is necessary. The role of this team is to:

  • conduct a psychiatric assessment to clarify the diagnosis;
  • provide appropriate treatment, whether pharmacological or through psychological or psychosocial follow-up;
  • make treatment recommendations;
  • ensure continuity of services.
