Additional examinations
About 10% of women are referred for additional tests after their screening mammogram to establish an accurate diagnosis. In 90% of cases, the results of these additional tests will be normal.
Centre hospitalier régional du Grand-Portage de Rivière-du-Loup and Hôpital régional de Rimouski are the centres designated by the Québec Breast Cancer Screening Program to perform additional examinations. Hôpital de Matane also offers these additional examination services.
For clients served by the SARA mobile unit whose mammogram result is abnormal, the radiology file will automatically be transferred to:
- Centre hospitalier régional du Grand-Portage de Rivière-du-Loup (in French) for users from Kamouraska, Témiscouata and Les Basques
- Hôpital régional de Rimouski (in French) for clients from La Matapédia and La Mitis
The designated centre will contact the patient to schedule an appointment for the additional tests.
