Youth family-type resource ID-ASD-PD

A youth family-type resource (FTR) for intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or physical disability is a living environment where one or two people welcome, into their primary residence, up to nine children with an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or a physical disability.  These individuals provide a living environment and support and assistance services based on the needs of the children entrusted to them, while fostering a parent-like relationship in a family setting.

Why become a foster family?

  • To offer the necessary lodging, meals, support and assistance to children with an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder or a physical disability so they can live in the community and have a real home.
  • To contribute to the personal development of these individuals.
  • To create your own work project.
  • To work in partnership with professionals while respecting the policies and values of the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent.

Selection process

A selection process evaluates applicants according to the desired characteristics and the skills required to provide support and assistance services.

Applicants are evaluated through interviews based on the following five dimensions:

  • Personal characteristics
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide general and specific support and assistance services
  • Management skills
  • Physical environment

Once the evaluation stage is completed, the institution quickly decides whether or not to enter into an agreement with the applicant to serve as a foster family.
