Immediate protective measures

After accepting a report, the DPJ may be required to take measures to ensure a child’s immediate protection. Immediate protective measures may be taken at any time, day or night. They essentially involve removing the child from the environment where they are staying and placing them in a safe setting, such as with other family members, in a foster family or in a rehabilitation unit.

These measures are limited to a duration of 48 hours. Immediate protective measures may be extended by the DPJ if the child and the parents agree; otherwise, they may be extended by the court.
