Adults with mental disorders
All adults with mental disorders associated with psychological distress and a level of incapacity that impedes their interpersonal relationships and basic social skills can receive mental health services offered by the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent. These disorders can be transitional or persistent and of varying intensity. This page presents the various types of housing available.
Intermediate resources and family-type resources for mental health
Intermediate resources (IRs) are for people who have a mental health condition that causes disabilities or difficulties, and who need the services offered by a non-institutional residential resource (board and lodging, support or assistance). Their mental health condition does not require them to live in an institution, but they cannot live in the community with the support services offered.
A family-type resource (FTR) for mental health is for people who have a serious mental health problem. Users are housed in the primary residence of the person in charge of the FTR. They live in a normalized living environment that is as close as possible to a family home.
Crisis housing
Crisis housing (1 to 14 days) offers individuals experiencing a crisis the opportunity to stabilize their situation with the assistance of on-site support workers. A referral is not necessary for this service, and individuals can contact the support workers directly.
The territory served by crisis housing services covers the MRCs of Rimouski-Neigette, La Mitis, La Matapédia and La Matanie.
A person who does not live in these territories but is in a vulnerable situation could be eligible for residential services. They will be matched with the services available in their territory.
Transitional housing
This type of housing is offered to people receiving outpatient therapy, among other things, at the CISSS - Clinique de rétablissement santé mentale and who require intensive monitoring during this period.
The territory served by transitional housing covers the MRCs of Rimouski-Neigette, La Mitis, La Matapédia and La Matanie.
A person who does not live in these territories but is in a vulnerable situation could be eligible for residential services. They will be matched with the services available in their territory.
Who can receive these services?
Anyone who is 18 years of age and older who is experiencing a suicidal or psychosocial crisis and who:
- voluntarily accepts the services;
- is non-violent;
- abstains from drug and alcohol use during their stay;
- has functional autonomy;
- accepts and respects the code of conduct during their stay;
- does not require medical supervision.
Housing offered by our partners
The CISSS partners with different organizations that offer housing for specific client groups. Depending on the context, individuals living with a mental health disorder can benefit from a supervised apartment.
The CISSS also collaborates with different organizations, such as Bouffée d'Air du KRTB and the Centre de prévention du suicide et d'intervention de crise du Bas-Saint-Laurent.
