Assessment
When a report is accepted, the DPJ must assess the child’s situation. A staff member from youth protection services meets with the child, the parents and anyone else who may provide relevant information in order to determine whether the child requires protection.
The analysis of the information gathered enables the DPJ to decide whether the child’s security or development is compromised. This is an important stage of intervention that determines whether the State will continue to be involved in the family’s life. If the child and the parents need assistance, the DPJ must inform them of the available resources and, with their consent, refer them to those resources.
