Intensive functional rehabilitation unit (URFI)
URFI provides specialized rehabilitation for individuals with physical impairments, with the goal of promoting their social integration. The objective is to support the optimal resumption of daily activities through an intensive, time-limited approach.
URFI is made up of a specialized team of physicians, rehabilitation professionals, nurses and support staff who work closely with you, your family and healthcare professionals in your area.
The services of the intensive functional rehabilitation unit are intended for adults requiring intensive rehabilitation interventions and medical care following an illness or trauma.
This includes you or a family member affected by a serious health condition such as a nervous system disorder (stroke or traumatic brain injury (TBI)), a musculoskeletal injury (e.g., amputation) or major burns, whose medical condition is stabilized, whose diagnosis is confirmed and who is able to participate in rehabilitation.
Eligibility criteria include:
- have a significant and persistent reduction in the ability to carry out physical or cognitive activities following a neurological or musculoskeletal injury;
- have a significant potential for improvement in functional independence;
- have a medically stable condition;
- be available to actively participate in an intensive rehabilitation program;
- have needs that are complex enough to require the services of an interdisciplinary team.
How to access services
Access to this service is provided through healthcare professionals when rehabilitation that has already begun can be continued in one of the two units located in Mont-Joli (16 beds) and Rivière-du-Loup (5 beds). If you believe that you or a loved one could benefit from this service, feel free to ask a healthcare professional at your next visit for information about URFI services and a referral.
