Support for programs, services and partners

The technical aids service of the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent provides various types of assistive devices and equipment for individuals living with motor, visual or hearing impairments.

You will benefit from the services of a dynamic and professional team who will accompany you throughout the entire process, from assessing your needs to designing devices, as well as fitting and adjustments.

Request for service

You must have a medical prescription or a referral from a healthcare professional. The cost of the technical aid may be covered by a paying organization (e.g., RAMQ, SAAQ, CNESST, private insurance), if you meet the organization’s eligibility criteria.

Motor impairment services

These aids are intended to compensate for a person’s physical disability. They include various types of assessment, recommendation and provision services for mobility and positioning aids such as:

  • wheelchairs
  • strollers
  • orthoses (children’s and adult orthoses, foot orthoses, compression garments, custom footwear)
  • prostheses (in collaboration with the Institut de réadaptation en déficience physique de Québec (IRDPQ) under an inter-institutional agreement)
  • posture and mobility aids
  • walking aids

The technical aids service also ensures maintenance and repair of the equipment provided.

To be eligible for the RAMQ program, you must be covered under the public health insurance plan and have a physical disability. You must also meet the eligibility conditions associated with the device you require.

Visual impairment services

Visual aids compensate for partial or total vision loss and support you in your daily activities.

To be eligible for the RAMQ program, you must be covered under the public health insurance plan. You must also have a permanent visual impairment that prevents you from doing one of the following:

  • reading or writing;
  • moving around in unfamiliar environments;
  • carrying out activities related to your daily activities or social roles (e.g., student, worker, parent).

An assessment of your visual impairment will determine whether you meet the program’s eligibility conditions.

Hearing impairment services

Hearing assistance devices help compensate for or reduce certain difficulties associated with hearing loss. They include:

  • telephone amplifiers
  • doorbell, fire alarm or telephone ring detectors
  • adapted alarm clocks
  • teletypewriters (TTYs)

To be eligible for the RAMQ program, you must be covered under the public health insurance plan and meet the eligibility conditions associated with the required device. For more information, visit : https://www.ramq.gouv.qc.ca/en/citizens/aid-programs/hearing-aids
