Giving birth in our hospitals
Obstetric units in the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent’s hospitals welcome hundreds of newborns each year. The perinatal teams adopt an approach based on the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). In “baby-friendly” institutions, mothers and their babies benefit from the Initiative, whether or not the baby in breastfed. Pregnant women and new mothers receive the information they need to make an informed decision about how to feed their baby. After the birth, every effort is made to keep the baby with their mother at all times to promote skin-to-skin contact. Staff is trained to support the mother, regardless of the type of milk she gives her baby.
Contact the hospital centre nearest you to find out more about its obstetrics department and neonatal unit.
Or contact our team of midwives, depending on where you live. Consult the contact information on this page.
