Childbirth with midwives
Some women and families call on the midwifery services of the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent, available across all eight MRCs in Bas-Saint-Laurent.
Midwives work under the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). All mothers and babies benefit from the Initiative, regardless of if the baby is breastfed or formula fed. Pregnant women and new mothers are provided with the information they need to make informed decisions about how to feed their baby. After delivery, everything is put in place to leave baby and mother together 24 hours a day and to encourage skin-to-skin contact. The staff is trained to support all mothers, whether they are breastfeeding or using formula.
