Senior and alternative housing

Bandeau Maisons des aînés et alternative

In Bas-Saint-Laurent, two senior and alternative homes are available to the population. In  Rivière-du-Loup, these resources offer 120 beds and in Rimouski, 72.

As described by the MSSS in its guidance document on senior or alternative housing, the major overhaul of residential resources is developed with the goal of providing a lifestyle and pace that is as close as possible to what the resident would experience if they were still living at home. This model focuses on the person’s needs, and reflects their choices and decisions. These living environments are intended to be welcoming and warm, familiar and personalized.

Senior or alternative housing welcomes seniors with moderate loss of autonomy who are supported until their loss of autonomy becomes more significant. Alternative homes welcome adults who have a physical or intellection disability or an autism spectrum disorder.

Visit the ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) website to learn more about the concept of senior or alternative housing: how they function, community participation, eligibility, costs, etc.
